Ep02. Explorations in Asian Christianity with Scott W. Sunquist

“Christianity was born at the borderland of two empires, and at the confluence of three continents”

In this, our second episode, Liam is joined by Scott W Sunquist to talk about his book Explorations in Asian Christianity. We talk they why and how of studying Christian mission (including his excellent proposal of a cruciform and apostolic lens), discuss the multi-directional, complex, and fascinating story of the transmission of Christianity in Asia (spoiler: it's much more complex than East to West), a theology for mission and migration, the question of unity in World Christianity, what story from world Christian history would Scott turn into a movie... and so much more!

Scott W Sunquist is the Dean of the School of Intercultural Studies and Professor of World Christianity, in the School of Intercultural Studies at Fuller Theological Seminary. He previously taught at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary and before that at Trinity Theological College in the Republic of Singapore – where he and his wife, Nancy, also served as missionaries. He is the author of The Unexpected Christian Century: The Reversal and Transformation of Global Christianity, 1900–2000 (2015), Understanding Christian Mission: Participation in Suffering and Glory, the three-volume History of the World Christian Movement, which he coauthored with Dale Irvin, and, most recently, Explorations in Asian Christianity: Theology, History, Mission.
